How to Draw People to Your Website - Selecting the Right Keywords
by Dan Sweigert

This is an exciting time for your company...
The launch date has arrived and your new, improved website is ready to fly. You and your staff have spent countless hours developing the content and images, or you’ve paid thousands of dollars to have someone else do it for you.

Maybe your company did extensive market research, tested your site on users, or compiled results from focus groups. But unless you have already built up an impressive client list or you have major brand name recognition, your site could end up like the most beautiful billboard on the least traveled rural route in Nebraska.

Let’s face it; everybody has a website these days – from your high school student web-blogger to Joe’s Auto Body Repair Shop. But what good is a great site if no one knows it exists?

Did you know that 50% of all visitors to your website will be there for the first time? Or that, out of that 50%, about 80% will arrive through a search engine? So how do you use search engines to bring people to your site? One easy approach is to add keywords to your web pages.

Why Keywords?
Keywords are the words your potential customers search for on engines like Google. They should summarize what your website & company is about. If you choose your keywords wisely, you will attract the right kinds of people – paying customers. Keywords can be a simple list of your services, or special skills you think they might be searching for.

You might think that casting the widest net here would catch the most fish – but think again.
