| How to Draw People to Your Website - Using Meta-tags Effectively cont. |
| |
| I would not recommend doing something this drastic as I suspect the folks at Google were so amused by this, they didn’t remove the site from their index. |
| |
|
| I would emphasize using effective keywords that actually relate to the content on your website. Even if you’re not concerned about getting banned from the search engines, you still want to select keywords that attract the right people (actual paying customers, or at least people who are interested in what you have to offer). |
| |
| The Description Meta-tag - Don't forget it! |
|
| The Description Meta-tag is an important place to put your keywords into and unlike the actual Keyword Meta-tag, Google indexes it (and so do the other search engines). The best descriptions read like an actual sentence. Again, do not over use repetition. You can place up to 250 characters into your description. Here’s an example: |
| |
| <META NAME=”description” CONTENT=”Dog Food – Dog treats, puppy food, vitamins for dogs. If you are looking for healthy treats for your dog, this is the site for you.”> |
| |
| Divide & Conquer |
|
| SEO experts have noted that you can’t maximize your ranking for more than a couple keywords at a time, but there is one way around this. Rather than trying to maximize for every keyword you want on every page of your site, pick 2-4 different keywords from the group for each individual page. |
|
|
| |
| Although your individual pages will only be maximized for a couple keywords, your overall site would be for all of them. Each page on your site most likely focuses on different keywords anyway, so take advantage of this. Check the titles of our pages in our Samples section for examples. |
