How to Draw People to Your Website - Using Meta-tags Effectively
by Dan Sweigert

Meta-tags are the things search engines such as Google use to find relevant results for their users. Businesses have paid thousands of dollars to companies that promise to dramatically increase their search-engine traffic through the use of Meta-tags.

Unless you know which Meta-tags the search engines look at and how important they are, you could wind up spending way too much money for little or no ROI.

Many people have tried to manipulate search engine results using Meta-tags. The major search engines know this, and so they continually revise their algorithms. Google, MSN, Yahoo, and the rest want to serve their customer’s interests. People want to find meaningful content on the words they search for and the search engines want to give it to them.

Not all Meta-tags are created equal
Which Meta-tags do the search engines read? How much importance do Google and the other major players place on them? Which ones do they ignore?
