Training Tips - Self-Study or Classroom?

You're developing a training program for your client or fellow employees. But before you even begin to design & write the materials, you'll need to decide how to best present your information. Ask yourself:
What is the most effective, cost-efficient training method?
What best addresses your audience's needs & learning styles?

Will participants be learning in a classroom environment, or studying the materials on their own?
Classroom & self-study approaches each have their own advantages & disadvantages.

So how do you decide? Let’s first take a deeper look at the self-study approach...

They are well suited for material that is factual. In other words, concepts are basically black & white and there is only one right answer. This approach usually includes multiple choice & true/false questions at the end of each section to measure how well the participant understood the material.

The benefits of a self-study program can include:
  Convenience:

- Self-study programs can be offered online or in print form.
- Participants can work at their own pace and at a time that is convenient for them.
-

Companies can deploy training programs to a large number of participants with a single installation - across the entire company, or around the world.
- Test results & other measurement data can be gathered electronically.
