looking to the future of technical communications

by Dan Sweigert from our February 2006 newsletter

While new technologies advance to make our work lives easier and more efficient, they also present new and complex challenges. Increased communications between people from all over the globe bring new opportunities for businesses and workers.

As companies begin to use these new tools in the workplace and hire new employees to implement their plans, they will have an increased need for technical writers.

The recession and dot com crash of a few years ago and offshore outsourcing has resulted in big layoffs – particularly in the technology sectors. “This has created a unique situation that we haven’t seen before, because many people who were downsized decided to leave their field of expertise,” said Jan Johansen - founding member of j&a.

“As the economy recovers, employers are having a hard time re-hiring experienced employees because those workers have changed careers and are no longer available. As a result, employers must hire less experienced workers and train them,” added Jan.

Johansen & Associates can help employers make this transition by helping them document their business processes and develop training programs that help their employees increase their knowledge and improve their skills.
