| Jan Johansen - President & Project Manager |
| |
| In the early 70s, mainframe computers were in their infancy and off-the-shelf software packages were unheard of, so companies had to write their own software applications. |
| |
| Jan began her career at a small manufacturing firm owned by Borden Chemical. She was responsilbe for analyzing all of the company’s procedures, collaborating with their programmers to develop accounting, order entry, inventory, & manufacturing software, writing their user & procedural manuals, and training all their employees. |
| |
| The term "Technical Writer" wasn't yet widely used, so Jan didn’t know what this work was called, but she knew she loved it and it was perfectly suited to her background in Education & English and her excellent technical & mechanical aptitude. Since then, she's worked as a Senior Technical Writer and Documentation & Training Manager in the corporate world for a number of large & small companies, including Commerce Clearing House, Tellabs, and Servicemaster. |
| |
| But she also had an entrepreneurial spirit that was longing to emerge. So in 1985, when she was offered an opportunity to independently develop user &
training materials for some of Xerox's new hardware & software products, she jumped at the chance and
Johansen & Associates was born. |
| |
| After a lifetime in the Chicago area, Jan realized her dream in 2005 to live in the South Carolina lowcountry. In her free time, she enjoys bird watching in the marshes & wetlands of the lowcountry,
painting & drawing, and horseback riding. |
