Jackie earned her Master of Arts in Germanic Languages & Literatures from the University of Oregon. She also has two Bachelor's degrees; a Bachelors of Science in Business, and a Bachelors of Arts in German from Humboldt State University in California.

While studying at Humboldt, Jackie worked as an on-air personality at KHSU, the college radio station. She also went on to become the station's Program Director.

Jackie then moved to London and earned a Cambridge teaching certificate. For a number of years she taught languages in the United States, England, Austria, and Hungary.

After satisfying a good deal of wanderlust, Jackie settled in Portland, Oregon and used her business and radio background to become the Business & Accounting Manager for public radio station KBOO, then the Budget Director for the American Red Cross’s Pacific Northwest Region.

Jackie had spent 6 years in Portland when she accepted a position as a non-profit software consultant in Chicago. She worked for a diverse group of non-profit clients doing systems, needs, and procedures analyses. Many clients wanted customized manuals for both software & accounting procedures. They would ask Jackie to write & design them, and she loved it!

So in her free time, Jackie completed a Certificate in Technical Communication at the College of Lake County in Illinois, and started working with Jan Johansen as an independent Technical Communications Professional. She has worked on a number of projects for J&A's clients including Terminix's ASPIRE and SMART training programs.
